Frühlings Erwachen
Frank Wedekind’s Spring Awakening masterfully describes the problems of adolescent youth: their budding sexuality, their opposition to teachers and parents, their pursuit of new ideals, and of a different and better world.
A process that does not always run smoothly. ‘The old, agreeable pilgrimage of life, which was to serve as an extended entrance exam for a better world, has now become a continuous race, with obstacles and traps,’ says Wedekind. We narrate this story in a contemporary setting.
The opera of Benoît Mernier – created in La Monnaie in 2007 – was edited by Frederik Neyrinck commissioned by SPECTRA Ensemble.
