Check out the start of Sunghwan Park’s career – an IOA alumnus, he is receiving great acclaim at ‘La Scala‘ in Milan.

Here, he looks back to his time at the IOA, and remembers how the IOA helped him at the start of his career:
“At the IOA, the teaching programme was complete and extensive: we had language coaching for many languages, but also movement and acting lessons. Because of this in-depth training, I know how to prepare a role for a production to precision.
As a result of this preparation, I finished well at the Scala auditions.
I started with a small part as Ein Lakei in Ariadne auf Naxos (R. Strauss), then I sang Dandini in  La Cenerentola (G. Rossini). Now, I am performing the role of Conte Robinson in Il matrimonio segreto (D. Cimarosa). I will also participate in The Little Prince, a children’s opera. ”

Sunghwan is also delighted with the alliance between the IOA and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen:
“There are many singers with good qualities all over the world.  However, it is not easy to learn how to develop those good qualities. The reason I recommend the IOA is that you can learn the linguistic nuances of different countries with a local coach, and train your acting skills right inside the theater. In addition, this current collaboration between IOA and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen will ensure that students gain experience in more productions. ”

Keep up the good work Sunghwan!
