A Daring Così Fan Tutte for the Modern Stage

This spring, the International Opera Academy invites you to the magnificent Bourla Theatre for a bold, sparkling, and deeply human reimagining of W.A. Mozart’s Così fan tutte — an opera that has fascinated, provoked, and delighted audiences for over two centuries.

Under the inspiring baton of internationally acclaimed conductor Nabil Shehata, the students of the Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels conservatories breathe new life into Mozart’s masterful score. Our Young Artists step into a vivid new staging crafted by visionary director Paul Carr, whose fresh, contemporary approach brings emotional clarity, sharp wit, and modern resonance to this timeless exploration of love and loyalty.

Love Tested, Hearts Revealed

Two young officers, Ferrando and Guglielmo, boast of their fiancées’ unwavering devotion. Their friend Don Alfonso laughs at such certainty — and proposes a wager. What follows is a daring social experiment: the men disguise themselves to test the fidelity of sisters Fiordiligi and Dorabella.
In a whirlwind of seduction, confusion, desire, and disguise, the characters stumble into emotional territory far deeper than any of them expects. Così fan tutte is both comedy and cautionary tale — a glittering score wrapped around a story that asks uncomfortable questions about love, trust, and the fragile nature of human commitment.

A New Opera for a New World

With its intimate ensemble, psychological sharpness, and radiant music, Così fan tutte offers the perfect canvas for the International Opera Academy’s mission: to reimagine what opera can be today. Expect bold theatricality, youthful energy, and performances shaped by the curiosity and craft of artists on the cusp of international careers.

Join us at the Bourla Theatre for a Così fan tutte that is witty, touching, and unmistakably contemporary — a production that invites you to hear Mozart anew and to experience opera as living, breathing storytelling for our time.
