Concerts & Productions

The programme’s professional orientation is put into practice through a number of yearly activities that are open to the general public. Internationally renowned conductors and directors are responsible for the artistic direction of these concerts and productions.

All students obtain roles in the performances produced by the IOA, which include at least one production with piano in the first year and one production with orchestra in the second year of the course. By organising concerts, recitals, public courses and a number of productions the IOA appeals to new, young target groups.

During their studies, students also collaborate in private concerts. These are arranged by individuals and organisations that provide financial support to IOA and/or students.

Internationally celebrated artists are invited to conduct classes in which they freely share their knowledge and experience. Even when their perceptions do not always completely match the style of the studio, IOA sees this confrontation as an enrichment of the curriculum. In this way the students receive an insight into different opinions about singing and opera, even if they are not directly included in the training.

Masterclasses 2018-2019

The last day of the masterclass is always open to the public. Free entrance, but we ask you kindly to make a reservation in advance: on stage.

Students’ internships during the second year depend on the results of auditions performed during the first year. There are different types of internships, including those in which the student actively participates in the production and sings in performances, those in which the student acts as a cover, and so-called observation placements in which the student is a passive participant in the production process.

All students will obtain roles in the performances produced by the IOA including the fully-staged production with orchestra.
