Hollywood Songbook – Aperitiefconcert

An exile in Hollywood, German composer Hanns Eisler wrote songs while his homeland, for which he felt both passionate revulsion and deep nostalgia, sank into the abyss of World War II. Eisler’s Hollywood Songbook and other musical contemporaries portray an inner world of home and exile. 

In a witty interpretation, director Helene Bracke translates this inner world into a semi-staged concert.

Als balling in Hollywood schreef de Duitse componist Hanns Eisler liedjes terwijl zijn vaderland, waarvoor hij zowel hartstochtelijke afkeer als diepe nostalgie voelde, wegzonk in de afgrond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Eislers Hollywood Songbook en andere muzikale tijdgenoten portretteren een innerlijke wereld van thuis en ballingschap. 

Regisseuse Helene Bracke vertaalt deze innerlijke wereld gevat naar een semi-geënsceneerd concert.
