Jongo Ziqubu

Jongo Ziqubu is a South African bass. Starting at the Kwa Zulu Natal philharmonic choir in 2017, performing Beethoven’s 9th symphony and Verdi’s Requiem, he quickly started taking on solo roles in different choirs in the National Choir Festival.

Jongo became a protégé of South African pedagogue Juan Burgers. In 2024, he joined the young artist program at Cape Town Opera, where he made his debut in the Magic Flute as Sarastro, and the king of Egypt in Aida. Vienna and Het Toneelhuis in Antwerp followed, with The Grief of Red Granny by Gorges Ocloo, Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and the Commendatore in Don Giovanni at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.
