Wim Henderickx


Wim Henderickx works as a composer, conductor, percussionist and professor of composition. He studied composition and percussion at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp and sonology at Ircam in Paris and at the Conservatoire of Music, The Hague. His compositions are frequently inspired by other cultures and electronics are often an important feature in his work.
Since 1996 Wim Henderickx has been composer in residence at Muziektheater Transparant, an Antwerp-based company with whom he made / makes opera and music theatre productions. He joined the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra as an artist in residence in 2013. The full double CD (2016), recorded by this orchestra, received international acclaim including five stars in BBC Music Magazine.
Commissioned by the Queen Elisabeth Competition he composed Canzone for voice and piano for the 2008 edition. Following a journey around India and Nepal he composed the Tantric Cycle, seven compositions with Eastern philosophy as a source of inspiration (2004-2010). In October 2016 Blossomings for choir, trumpet and electronics premiered with the BBC Singers at LSO St Luke’s in London. Requiem was commissioned by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in 2017, a ballet production with choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
Wim Henderickx was awarded both nationally and internationally for his work. His scores are published by Norsk Musikforlag in Oslo. He is a professor of composition at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Antwerp and he is also the main coach of the annual SoundMine composition course for young composers (Musica, Belgium).
