Korneel Bernolet was named ‘Young Belgian Musician of the Year 2014’. He is artistic director of Apotheosis Orchestra and works as assistant-conductor for Jos van Immerseel at Anima Eterna Brugge (19th and 20th century repertoire) and Christophe Rousset at Les Talens Lyriques (Baroque opera). In 2016 he was appointed the new professor of harpsichord at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, where he teaches on the original Dulcken 1747 harpsichord in Museum Vleeshuis.
Korneel was taught by Paul Clement, Ewald Demeyere, Jesper Bøje Christensen, Gustav Leonhardt and Christophe Rousset, and plays in ensembles such as La Petite Bande, BachPlus, Il Gardellino, Scherzi Musicali, Transports Publics and B’Rock. Focusing on French and German repertoire, he is much in demand for solo and chamber music recitals, both in Belgium and abroad.
As a conductor, Korneel travels around the globe as an assistant at opera houses. During the past seasons, sold-out Apotheosis productions with e.g. Haydn’s Schöpfung, Mozart’s Messiah and Telemann’s opera Orpheus were critically acclaimed. His CD recordings (Balbastre, Rameau, Weckbacher…) were praised in the international press.
Korneel is professor at the International Opera Academy Gent and the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, besides pursuing a PhD degree at Antwerp University.
